I was diagnosed with mild flat feet and recommended orthortics. I didn't question that for years, until a few months ago when I discovered that I could raise my arch by tensing my arch muscles. I now consciously keep my arch raised as long as I can. I sometimes forget, but I think with enough practice and running barefoot, it might permanently increase my arch.
